Peace COol World,

As you sit down with your families and loved ones on Thursday, please say a little prayer…send out a little thanks for those who are NOT able to do so. For those folks who wear uniforms and have to WORK on holidays like these.

Military
Police
Fire fighters
Flight Attendants
Pilots
Hell…even restaraunt workers.

We’ll all be at your service on Thursday. So please, regardless to how you feel about the war(s), the airlines or the PO-Lice, just remember that they are people too…ANd give a little word of thanks.

R.I.P MC Breed…

mc_breedI can’t believe it. MC BREED( Eric Breed) passed away…quietly in his sleep this morning. It trips me out. I’m from F-L-I-N-T! HE is probably the only rapper from Flint that made it to the NATIONAL arena. And on “Ain’t No Future in Your Fronting” he made it known that FLINT was his hometown. At that time, he was proud of Flint and Flint was proud of him.

My prayers go out to his children, his family and loved ones.

It also trips me out because he was such a young cat. I don’t think he was even forty years old. I’d see him out and about from time to time. When I worked at a hotel in Ann Arbor he would come get a room there…and make me promise NOT to tell my friends where he was staying (not that anyone was checking for him like that :-) . Last year, I ran into him at the FIREFLY club in Ann Arbor and he was kind enough to let me interview him. He seemed pretty excited about new projects…

HERE is that interview.

Enjoy.

Peace Cool World,
I’ve been a busy bee this week. Mostly flying. No major changes in my life. I do feel, however, that I’ve lost my writing voice. Maybe “misplaced” is a better word.
Its just that there are SO many things happening in the world everyday. By the time I’m able toform an opinion on one…there’s something new on the table. I know that the blogosphere nad teh digital world is DESIGNED to be fast paced…but I can’t keep up. It frustrates me. So I’ve buried myself in the world that DOES NOT change. BOOKS. I’m reading at least three right now.

Duma Key – Stephen King
Move Beyond the Colored line – Jacquelyn Rochell
Man Child in the Promised Land (for the third time) – Claude Brown

I’m also writing a bit..but mostly just fragmented paragraphs of narrative fiction. I’m never able to get past the first page. UGGGHHH!

SOOOooo…I took this survey from my guy BILLIONE. Its fun…and maybe it will help me to rediscover my voice.

Enjoy
Peace

Peace Cool World…
I know that I’m a few days late…but better late than never.
R.I.P Miriam Makeba.
I remember when she was on the Cosby show…clicking her tongue in the dialect that SOUTH PARK parodies so well. She was talking to Olivia about running away. I remember thinking then ( I had to be eleven or twelve years old), that THIS was a REAL AFRICA woman…as opposed to the emaciated, disease ridden skeletons I’d always seen on the “Save the Children” commercials.

Anyhoo…

Enjoy the video

Peace Cool World,

I am preparing to return to work. Four day trip with over nights in exciting Memphis, TN. The big city of the Midwest: Cincinnati and the oh-so-glamorous Kansas City, Kansas. Fun right?

Since I haven’t posted since Obama was elected…this will just be a mish mash of ransom thoughts of the past week.

-Isn’t THIS cartoon just SOOOO true? But I guess we can forget ALLLL about that, huh? Since Barack Obama is president…right? RIIIIiiiiiight (wink, wink).

sunni- I drove to Flint, MI last night to see a poet named Sunni Patterson. SHE. WAS. AWESOME. She reminded me of myself…not because of her poetry, but because of her persona on stage. She just DOES what she DOES. Sometimes stopping in the middle of a piece speak what ever happened to be on her mind at the time…or a side bar to explain the origin of the piece. And was FLUID! DOPE! I’m inspired. Seeing all the poets that traveled from other cities to perform (Indianapolis, Cincinnati, Milwaukee) made me wonder what kind of life I’d be living right now if I had continued to promote my book of poetry (While Dwelling in the Outskirts of Obscurity- Boogie Brwn Girl Press 2007).

books-thumb- I bought a book case from a woman on Craigslist. Up to this point, my library was stuffed into those industructible white, red, and blue laundry bags that you often see homeless folk toting their worldly possessions in. I had like four or five of ‘em chocked full of my favorite literary works.Thsi book case forced me to re arrange my entire living room!! And its only got four shelves! And yet I STILL removed every stitck of furniture from the living room, staged the book shelf and then moved the furniture back…in an arrangement complimentary to the shelf. BOOKS ARE THAT IMPORTANT TO ME! Good times…good times…

-I’m sick of seeing posts and site ask the question: What did America mean/intend when they elected Barack Obama? I’ll tell you. We meant that we wanted HIM to be president. Simple as that! HA!

-I spend A LOT of time in the blogosphere. I find so many blogs that I relate to. I’ve decided that COOL C(h)RYS is not a clever enough name. Mostly because it does not incorporate the words:black, brown, coa-coa, honey, mahagony, ebony, brown skinned, chocolate, queen, fashionista, or sistah (i.e. Sassy Soul Sistah.wordpress.com, or Educated Ebony Queen.com). nothing against the blogs that DO incorporate those names…I just feel like I got little lazy when choosing my blog title.

- I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Clutchmagonline.com! LOVE IT!!! Shout out to GLENNISHA MORGAN for putting me on all those months ago. Parlour magazine runs a close second.
- My article in STREETS MAGis being recieved well. I’ve got another “HOOD STAR” article in next months issue. In addition to MAYBE an exclusive interview/article featuring a certain up and coming r & B vandal diva.

- What ever happened to Digible Planets? Huh? They were some cool cats…

-I guess that’s all cool world. I’ll be at work for the next four days. I’ll try to post my “adventures” this week.

be PEACE!
